Error: "Not Accessible: You might not have permission to use this network resource" while trying to access the network computer
Original Title: home networking: Permission issuesThe home networking was working well. I have a desktop and a laptop both on winxp sp3. I also have MacAfee antivirus software on both machines. I took the laptop to the public library and used the library WiFi to connect to the internet. Later at home, the laptop would no longer share with my desktop. Now I am getting the "Not Accessible: You might not have permission to use this network resource" error when trying either way, from desktop to laptop or from laptop to desktop.Have tried the Hotfix KB940648, MS fix 50389, and followed the instructions on KB318030 & KB913628. My internet connection at home is through a router gateway. Both machines function normally in all other respects, just want to have them to be able to share files back and forth like they used to.Is there anything that can be done?

Hi adaba063,Try these methods in order and check which one of these helps you in fixing the issue.Method 1: Try to uninstall and re-install the wireless card drivers on your laptop. This will reset the Network connections.a. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.b. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.c. To see a list of installed network adapters, expand Network adapter(s). Click to locate the network adapter, and then click Uninstall.d. Restart the computer, and then let the system automatically detect and install the network adapter drivers. You may also obtain the latest updated driver from the manufacturer’s site and install it on your laptop and check.Method 2: Temporarily disable the antivirus software on both the machines and check if it makes any difference. If the issue is fixed, you may have to contact the program manufacturer to know about the settings that can be changed or if there are any other updates for this program.Note:Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Running a computer without any security software can cause a potential threat to your computer. Hence, make sure to enable the Security Software once you are done with the test.Regards,Divya R – Microsoft Support.Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.
